For the treatment of mixed infections of roundworms and tapeworms in dogs caused by:

Not suitable for

• Dogs under 2 kg.

• Dogs during the first and second trimester of pregnancy.

• Dogs with hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the excipients.

Active substances :
Pyrantelembonate, Praziquantel and Febantel.
Drontal Tasty contains 150 mg febantel, 50 mg pyrantel corresponding to 144 mg pyrantelembonate and 50 mg praziquantel for the single, oral administration to treat worm-mix infections of bovine and tapeworms in dogs.

DOSAGE:
One tablet per 10 kg of body weight.
2-5 kg = ½ Drontal Tablet
6-10 kg = 1 Drontal Tablet
11-15 kg = 1½ Drontal Plus Tablet
16-20 kg = 2 Drontal tablets
21-25 kg = 2½ Drontal Tablet
26-30 kg = 3 Drontal tablets

Method of administration:
Oral administration.
Dietary measures are not necessary.
A standard schedule for adult dogs is one deworming every 3 months.

• For round and tapeworms, tablets should be administered only once.
• For treatment against infection with Giardia spp. the recommended dose should be administered on three consecutive days.

Shelf life & storage advice

• Store in a dry and cool place.

• After opening the blister, half tablets will keep for up to 7 days if wrapped in aluminum foil and placed back in the box.

Composition & action.

• Ingredients (per tablet): Febantel 150 mg, pyrantel embryonate 144 mg (equivalent to 50 mg pyrantel) and a 3rd active ingredient 50 mg.

• Properties: Drontal Dog is roundworm and tapeworm medicine with as active ingredients the tetrahydropyrimidine derivative pyrantel (as embonate salt), the pro-benzimidazole febantel and a 3rd active ingredient, a partially hydrogenated pyrazinoisoquinoline derivative. This combination creates a synergistic effect of pyrantel and febantel against all major nematodes (roundworms, hookworms and whipworms) in dogs. In particular, the spectrum of action includes Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma caninum and Trichuris vulpis. The spectrum of the 3 active ingredients includes all major tapeworms found in dogs. In particular, praziquantel is active against Taenia spp, Multiceps multiceps, Dipylidium caninum, Mesocestoides spp, Echinococcus granulosus and Echinococcus multilocularis. The 3rd active ingredient is active against all intestinal stages of these frequently occurring parasites in dogs. Pyrantel exerts a nicotinergic action as a cholinergic agonist. By depolarizing neuromuscular blockade, it leads to spastic paralysis of the nematodes. The anthelmintic efficacy of febantel relies on the inhibition of the polymerization of tubulin into microtubules. The resulting structural and functional disturbances of the parasite's metabolism lead to the depletion of the energy reserve and, consequently, to the parasite's death after 2 to 3 days. The 3rd active ingredient is absorbed very rapidly through the wall of the parasite and is evenly distributed in the parasite. Damage to the tegument of the parasite occurs very rapidly both in vitro and in vivo, leading to dysregulation of the parasite's metabolism with death.

Side effects & warnings.

• Do not combine with piperazine.

• Fleas serve as intermediate hosts for a common tapeworm - Dipylidium caninum. An infestation of tapeworm is certain to recur unless intermediate hosts such as fleas, mice, etc. are also controlled.
